Our second Beehive Community Dinner was a joyful, full-to-bursting evening. With about 60 guests gathered around the tables, the room was buzzing from the moment people arrived.
The food was a big hit. While the pulled pork sandwiches were definitely a favourite, many people were pleasantly surprised by just how delicious the BBQ jackfruit and tofu sandwiches were too. And the orange poppyseed cake with raspberry glaze disappeared in a flash.
After dinner, the room shifted from easy conversation to full-on friendly competition as trivia got underway. Huge thanks to Chad and Toby for hosting such a fun night. There was laughter, spirited debate, a little bit of chaos, and plenty of teamwork — exactly the kind of energy we were hoping for.

Most importantly, this dinner was made possible by an incredible group of about 18 volunteers who helped make sure everyone felt welcome, well fed, and connected. From setup to serving to cleanup to chatting with guests, they brought warmth and generosity to every part of the evening. You are truly the heart of the hive, and we are so grateful.
One of the things we continue to love most about these dinners is how quickly the room fills with conversation. Some people come with friends or family, while others come on their own, but once everyone is seated around shared tables, the evening takes on a life of its own. Good food helps, of course — but it’s the people who make The Beehive what it is.
And now we’re getting ready to do it all again.
Tickets are now on sale for our May 9 dinner
Our next Beehive Community Dinner is coming up fast on Saturday, May 9, and tickets are now on sale.

This will be the third and final dinner in our spring pilot series, and we’re excited to be planning another warm evening of shared food and conversation. This month’s dinner will feature a homemade Middle Eastern-inspired menu with meatballs with tahini, yogurt, mint, and pomegranate; roasted cauliflower with parsley-almond salsa and capers; Turkish salad with feta; bread; hummus; and homemade fruit crisp for dessert. Much of the menu will be gluten-free.

We’re also delighted to welcome Prairie Wolfe, a Vancouver-based Celtic fiddler, who will join us after dinner for some live music.
With Mother’s Day the next day, it could make for a lovely night out that weekend — but as always, the evening is for everyone. Whether you come with a friend, family member, neighbour, or on your own, you’ll be very welcome.
Tickets are $10, thanks to donations and grants that help us keep the dinners affordable. Ticket sales close at the end of the day on May 7 so our volunteers can shop and prepare the meal.
We’d love to have you join us.
Get your tickets here — and if you know someone who might enjoy a welcoming community dinner, please share this post or download the poster off our website to help spread the word.
