Beehive Community Dinner -
Burrito Night
Saturday, March 14 | White Rock/Surrey
Join us for the first Beehive Community Dinner — an evening of good food, shared tables, and easy conversation with neighbours from White Rock and Surrey.

What's for dinner: Burrito Night
We’ll be serving a relaxed, build-your-own burrito dinner (or make it a salad if you prefer), enjoyed family-style at the table:
-
Mexican-spiced pulled chicken
-
Mexican-spiced tofu (vegetarian option)
-
Homemade refried beans and Mexican rice
-
Warm flour or gluten-free tortillas
-
Fresh toppings, including shredded lettuce, salsa, cheese, and pickled red onions
-
A sweet finish of churro cake with cinnamon sugar — because there’s always room for dessert
Food notes:
Common ingredients include wheat (flour tortillas, cake), dairy (cheese, yogurt, butter), eggs, soy (tofu), and spices. While we aren’t able to make individual menu changes, full ingredient details will be shared in advance so guests can make informed choices.
Beverages
Water will be available at the tables. Additional beverages, including soft drinks and homemade hibiscus punch, will be available for cash purchase.
Activities
A kids’ craft table will be available throughout the evening. After dinner, board games and cards will be set out for anyone who’d like to stay, play, and connect — whether you’re competitive or just in it for fun.
Participation in all activities is optional.
Tickets & accessibility
Tickets for this dinner are $10 per person. This covers about half of the actual cost of the meal, with the remaining costs supported through donations and grants.
We’ve intentionally kept ticket prices low to make the dinners accessible to as many people as possible. Paying the ticket price is enough — and everyone is equally welcome.
If you’re attending with a small group of friends or family, please buy your tickets together on the same order so we can seat you at the same table.
If you’re able and would like to help support future Beehive dinners, optional donations are warmly welcomed. Contributions help us cover food costs, keep ticket prices low, and allow us to host additional dinners beyond this pilot. You’ll be able to donate through Simpli, or you can reach out to arrange an e-transfer. Completely optional — and deeply appreciated.
The Beehive Dinners will be held at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in South Surrey. The building is wheelchair accessible and accessible for people with disabilities.
Although the dinners are in the church's multipurpose room, The Beehive Community Dinners are not a religious initiative and are open to people of all beliefs and backgrounds.
We aim to create an inclusive, respectful space where people of all ages, backgrounds, and identities feel comfortable and welcome. These dinners are especially welcoming for people who are new to the neighbourhood, live on their own, or are simply looking to meet a few neighbours — but truly, everyone is welcome.
What to expect
Guests are seated at shared tables and enjoy a homemade meal served family-style, creating plenty of opportunities for easy conversation. Participation is always optional — there’s no pressure to talk, join activities, or stay longer than you’d like.
Meals are made from scratch, with both meat and vegetarian options available. The dinners are volunteer-run by local community members, and tickets are priced to keep meals accessible, supported by donations and grants.
Everyone is welcome — whether you come with friends, family, or on your own.
Why we are doing this
The Beehive Community Dinners are relaxed, neighbourhood-focused meals designed to help people living in White Rock and Surrey connect in a simple, welcoming way.
This spring, we’re hosting three pilot dinners to see what’s working, what could be improved, and whether there’s community interest in continuing.
If you attend, we’ll invite you to share feedback through a short survey or comment card — and we’ll thank you with a freshly baked homemade cookie.
