Upcoming Dinners
Beehive Community Dinners are relaxed, shared meals designed to bring neighbours together in a simple, welcoming way. Each dinner is a chance to enjoy good food, meet new people, and be part of a growing community in White Rock and Surrey.
The Beehive Community Dinner: Middle Eastern-Inspired Dinner & Live Celtic Music —
Saturday, May 9 | White Rock / South Surrey
Join us for the next Beehive Community Dinner — an evening of good food, shared tables, and easy conversation with neighbours from White Rock and Surrey.
Everyone is welcome — whether you come with friends, family, or on your own.
As it is Mother’s Day weekend, this dinner could make for a lovely night out, bring your Mom, a loved one, or someone who nurtured you! But as always, the evening is for everyone.
Please note: Ticket sales close at the end of the day on May 7 so our volunteers can purchase ingredients and begin preparing the meal.

Tickets
Tickets are $10 per person and available now. Seating is limited, so we recommend booking early.
What’s for Dinner
We’ll be serving a homemade, family-style meal at shared tables, with a menu inspired by Communal Dinner: With Love from Folkehuset Absalon. Dinner will include Middle Eastern-inspired meatballs with tahini, yogurt, mint, and pomegranate, whole roasted cauliflower with parsley-almond salsa and capers, Turkish salad with feta, bread, hummus, and homemade fruit crisp for dessert.
Food notes
Common ingredients in this meal include wheat, dairy, nuts, and sesame. While we aren’t able to make individual menu changes, full ingredient details will be shared in advance so guests can make informed choices.
Beverages
Water will be available at the tables, and coffee and tea will be served with dessert. Additional beverages, including soft drinks and homemade punch, will be available for purchase ($2, cash only).
After-Dinner Entertainment
After dinner, we’re delighted to welcome Prairie Wolfe, a Vancouver-based Celtic fiddler, for some live music. Prairie has performed across Celtic music communities in Vancouver, Boston, and Seattle, and we’re so glad she’ll be joining us for the evening. As always, there will also be plenty of time for conversation.
Participation is always casual and optional — you’re welcome to stay and enjoy the music, chat with others, or head home whenever you like.

What to Expect
Guests are seated at shared tables and enjoy a homemade meal together, creating plenty of opportunities for easy conversation.
If you’re attending with a small group of friends or family, please purchase your tickets together in the same order so we can seat you at the same table.
Meals are made from scratch by volunteers, and tickets are priced to keep the dinners accessible, supported by donations and grants.
Thanks to donations and grants, we’re able to price tickets at $10 even though the true cost of the meal is just under $20, helping keep our dinners accessible.
If you’re able, you’re welcome to help cover more of the true cost of the meal by adding an optional donation at checkout. Any support helps us keep ticket prices low, welcome more neighbours, and host additional dinners beyond our pilot.
Donations are completely optional and not eligible for tax receipts. Thank you for being part of the community.

There is always a place at the
Beehive table for you!
Accessibility & Inclusion
The dinner will be held at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in South Surrey. The building is wheelchair accessible and accessible for people with disabilities.
Although the dinners take place in a church hall, The Beehive Community Dinners are not a religious initiative and are open to people of all beliefs and backgrounds.
We aim to create an inclusive, respectful space where people of all ages, backgrounds, and identities feel comfortable and welcome. These dinners are especially welcoming for people who are new to the neighbourhood, live on their own, or are simply looking to meet a few neighbours — but truly, everyone is welcome.
The Beehive Pilot
The Beehive Community Dinners are relaxed, neighbourhood-focused meals designed to help people in White Rock and Surrey connect in a simple, welcoming way. This spring, we’ve been hosting a small pilot series to learn what’s working and whether there’s interest in continuing.
This May 9 dinner is the third and final dinner in our spring pilot series.
If you attend, we may invite you to share feedback through a short survey or comment card — and we’ll thank you with a freshly baked homemade cookie.
Help Spread the Word
If you know others who might enjoy a Beehive dinner, we’d really appreciate your help sharing it.
You’re welcome to use our poster at your workplace, community space, or with neighbours — or simply pass this along to someone who might be interested.
We’re especially happy to connect with local organizations who’d like to share this with their communities. If that’s you, feel free to reach out — we’d love to hear from you.

From Our First Dinner -- March 14

Our first Beehive Dinner
On March 14, we hosted our first Beehive Community Dinner and welcomed neighbours from White Rock and Surrey for a shared meal, conversation, and connection.
The evening was relaxed, welcoming, and full of small moments of connection — exactly what we had hoped for. We’re so grateful to everyone who came, helped cook, volunteered, and supported the dinner.
It was a warm and encouraging start to this pilot project, and we learned a lot that we’re bringing into our next dinner.
If you want to read more about what we learned please visit our Blog.
