Thank You for a Wonderful Spring Pilot!

This spring, The Beehive hosted three community dinners designed to bring neighbours together through relaxed shared meals, simple activities, and good conversation.

Thank you to everyone who joined us — guests, volunteers, donors, cooks, clean-up crews, musicians, trivia hosts, supporters, and everyone who helped spread the word. The pilot gave us a chance to test the idea, learn what works, and see how much interest there is in this kind of neighbourhood gathering.

We’re now taking time to review guest feedback, volunteer experiences, costs, logistics, and overall capacity before deciding what comes next.

There are no tickets on sale right now, but we hope The Beehive will return in some form. The best way to hear future updates is to join our email list below.

Looking Back at the Spring Pilot

As the pilot unfolded, we saw neighbours return, volunteers step forward, and each dinner become a little easier, warmer, and more connected.

Together, the dinners sold 150 tickets — and one of the most encouraging signs was seeing some guests return again and again, with a number of people joining us for all three evenings.

The pilot was also made possible by about 25 volunteers, including a wonderful group of teen volunteers who showed up with energy, kindness, and a real willingness to help.

March 14 — Our First Dinner

Our first Beehive dinner brought neighbours together around shared tables and helped us test the idea in real life.

April 18 — Dinner and Trivia

Our second dinner added table trivia, giving guests an easy way to laugh, talk, and connect.

May 9 — Food, Music, and Conversation

Our final spring pilot dinner featured a Middle Eastern-inspired meal, live music, and another warm evening around the table.

Each dinner helped us learn more about what makes a community meal feel welcoming, relaxed, and meaningful.

We’re grateful to everyone who helped bring the pilot to life.

Thank You to Our Supporters

The Beehive spring pilot was made possible through many kinds of generosity.

Thank you to Mount Olive Lutheran Church for donating the space, and to the BC Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada and the City of White Rock for grant funding that helped us keep tickets affordable during the pilot.

We’re also deeply grateful to the individuals who donated, volunteered, bought tickets, invited neighbours, and helped spread the word. The Beehive only worked because so many people helped bring it to life.

What Happens Next?

The Beehive began as a spring pilot, and pilots are meant to help people learn.

Before planning future dinners, we’re taking time to reflect on what worked well, what could be improved, and what would make future Beehive gatherings welcoming, affordable, and sustainable.

We’re looking at things like guest feedback, volunteer capacity, food and kitchen logistics, costs, community interest, and the support needed to host future dinners well.

We’ll share more once we’ve had time to review what we learned.
